چکیده

Abstract. Recent remote sensing measurements and numerical studies have shown that surface gravity waves interact strongly with small-scale open ocean currents. Through these interactions, the significant wave height, frequency, direction are modified. In present paper, we investigate interactions of a large isolated realistic cyclonic eddy. This eddy is subject to instabilities, leading generation specific features at both mesoscale submesoscale ranges. We use WAVEWATCH III framework force in before after its destabilization. simulations source terms deactivated, initialized different intrinsic frequencies. The study illustrates how respond numerous kinds instabilities from few hundred tens kilometres. Our findings show spatial variability direction, mean period, height very sensitive presence structures resulting frequency incident key change current-induced refraction location, boundary where generated, maximum values height. However, for given current forcing, similar regardless waves. this idealized it has been gradients parameters sharper forced destabilized Because signature currents on encodes important information currents, our suggest vertical vorticity could be statistically estimated down fine scale. Furthermore, paper shows necessity include parametric models sea-state bias; using coarse-resolution field may severely underestimate sea-state-induced noise radar altimeter measurements.

Simulation of Gravity Wave Propagation in Free Surface Flows by an Incompressible SPH Algorithm

This paper presents an incompressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) model to simulate wave propagation in a free surface flow. The Navier-Stokes equations are solved in a Lagrangian framework using a three-step fractional method. In the first step, a temporary velocity field is provided according to the relevant body forces. This velocity field is renewed in the second step to include t...

Multi-megagauss magnetic field generation by amplitude modulated surface plasma wave over a rippled metal surface.

The mechanism of a self-generated megagauss magnetic field by an amplitude modulated surface plasma wave (SPW) over a rippled metallic surface is proposed. The amplitude modulated SPW exerts a ponderomotive force on free electrons in the metallic ripple, giving them an oscillatory velocity at the modulation frequency. The oscillatory velocity couples with the electron density in metallic ripple...

Dispersion of Torsional Surface Wave in a Pre-Stressed Heterogeneous Layer Sandwiched Between Anisotropic Porous Half-Spaces Under Gravity

The study of surface waves in a layered media has their viable application in geophysical prospecting. This paper presents an analytical study on the dispersion of torsional surface wave in a pre-stressed heterogeneous layer sandwiched between a pre-stressed anisotropic porous semi-infinite medium and gravitating anisotropic porous half-space. The non-homogeneity within the intermediate layer a...

Realistic simulation of ocean surface using wave spectra

We present a method to simulate ocean surfaces away from the coast, with correct statistical wave height and direction distributions. By using classical oceanographic parametric wave spectra, our results fit real world measurements, without depending on them. Since wave spectra are independent of the ocean model, Gerstner parametric equations and Fourier transform method can be used with them. ...

Wave-induced mixing within a gravity-driven surface current

An increasing awareness of environmental issues, coupled with a number of recent events, has focused considerable attention on the likely consequences of a large oil spill. If the impact of these accidental releases is to be minimises, the risk assessment and contingency planning must be based upon a sound understanding of the dispersion process. This is required to determine both the lateral s...
